Abstract
Stommel's hypothesis on the influence of the thermohaline circulation on the transport of the Brazil Current is illustrated using the produc t of Semtner and Chervin's model. The velocity distribution along spec ifically chosen zonal sections is analyzed. A procedure of singling ou t the thermohaline component of the circulation is suggested and the s ignificance of the component is proved.
