B. Gunther et H. Wagner, QUANTITATIVE-DETERMINATION OF TRITERPENES IN EXTRACTS AND PHYTOPREPARATIONS OF CENTELLA-ASIATICA (L) URBAN, Phytomedicine, 3(1), 1996, pp. 59-65
A new method for separation and quantitative determination of triterpe
nes in Centella asiatica herb and its pharmaceutical preparations has
been developed. Separation of all pharmacologically relevant triterpen
es (asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic- and madecassic acid) was ach
ieved by HPLC employing the reversed-phase separation system acetonitr
ile/water on RP 18 columns at a detection wavelength of 205 nm. Quanti
fication was carried out by the method of external standard with calib
ration curves for all triterpenes having correlation coefficients very
near to 1. The method is suitable for fingerprint analysis and standa
rdization of all Centella asiatica preparations.
