Abstract
This paper describes the application of a Safety Attitude Survey Quest ionnaire and a Process Safety Management System (PSMS) audit tool at s ix major hazard sites in four European countries. The tools provide qu antitative measures of safety attitudes and PSMS performance respectiv ely. The work compares these quantitative measures with accident perfo rmance data for the six sites. The work also considers the use of gene ric failure rate data used in quantified risk assessment for major haz ards within the context of land-use planning around the major hazard s ites, and the variation in accident performance data and safety attitu des of different sites.
