The effect of the state of molten alloy of iron with carbon (3.6%) and
silicon (2.3%) on the solidification process was studied by determini
ng the absolute values of density. Increasing the temperature of the m
olten alloy affects the interval of precipitation of primary austenite
and the volume ratios of the precipitated solid phases. A model is pr
oposed describing the structure and solidification mechanism of Fe-C-S
i alloy depending on the melting temperature.
