ATM switching fabrics are good candidates to implement high performanc
e parallel event builders for the future data acquisition systems in p
article physics experiments. We are studying their feasibility through
simulations and implementation of event builder demonstrators. We pre
sent results from performance measurements made with a demonstrator ba
sed on a commercial ATM switch and on network interfaces that we have
developed. The measurements are compared with the simulation studies a
nd their scalability is discussed.
