Abstract
Modification of the atrioventricular (AV) node with radiofrequency cat heter ablation of the posterior septum (''slow pathway'') was compared in patients with chronic atrial fibrillation and AV nodal reentrant t achycardia. Whereas extensive radiofrequency modification reduced the ventricular response to atrial fibrillation in some patients, a limite d slow pathway ablation sufficient to eliminate AV nodal reentrant tac hycardia had less effect on ventricular response to atrial fibrillatio n.
