Abstract
This study indicates that in patients with severe symptomatic rheumati c mitral regurgitation and good preoperative left ventricular function , postoperative outcome in terms of ventricular size and performance i s superior in younger (less than or equal to 18 years) compared with o lder patients, These differences become apparent only 1 year after sur gery.
