Abstract
We have demonstrated the crucial influence of the surface roughness fo r the specularity of atomic reflection on an evanescent wave. An evane scent wave on a well polished interface (roughness of 2 Angstrom) lead s to a diffuse reflection of the atoms. Thanks to a superpolishing (le ss than 1 Angstrom), we have obtained a specular reflection.
