Abstract
1) After reflection at the evanescent wave mirror, the atomic velocity distribution gives access to the modifications of the fluorescence ra te close to the turning point distance. 2) Taking into account evanesc ent light scattered at the dielectric surface, the mirror allows for s pecular reflection only if the surface is flat at the scale of the ato mic wavelength.
