Speech and language therapists are involved in the care of a wide rang
e of pathogies. Recent changes have been marked by an increased involv
ement in feeding and swallowing work with premature babies, and oropha
ryngeal cancer sufferers. Changes have also occurred in assessment and
management of communication problems resulting from acquired neurolog
ical pathologies such as stroke, Parkinson's disease and dementia. Som
e of these are discussed in the following article.
