Organizational development is a widely used concept in industry and th
e NHS. It tends to be associated with the softer side of management, a
nd this often masks the complex set of ideas it represents. Its curren
cy in the NHS has risen, especially in the last decade, application in
practice is closely linked to the process of managing change. This ar
ticle reviews the definitions of organizational development and explai
ns how the concept can be used to underpin organizational change.
