Irradiation of the 1,4-dihydropyridines (DHP) 1 and 5 with UV-A light
yields the nitroso compounds 3 and 6, which add solvents that contain
hydroxyl groups to form the oximes 4, 7 and 8. Compound 7a reacts with
hydrochloric acid to give a mixture consisting of the (Z)-2-hydroxy-i
mino-5-thiophenone 15 and the chloro-substituted thieno[2,3-b] [2,7]na
phthyridine 16. The structure of 15 was elucidated by X-ray diffractio
