The synthesis of pentafluorophenyl mono- or poly-nuclear gold(I) and/o
r gold(III) complexes with the tridentate ligand (PPh(2)CH(2))(3)CCH3
(tdppme) are described in different coordination modes not represented
thus far. The reaction of the free phosphine with gold(I) or gold(III
) derivatives in different molar ratios gives [{AU(C6F5)}(3)(mu(3)-eta
(3)-tdPPme)], [{Au(C6F5)}(2)(mu-eta(2)-tdPPmeO)], [Au(C6F5)(3)(eta(3)-
tdppme)] or [Au(C6F5)(2)(eta(2)-tdppme)]Cl. The mononuclear derivative
s further react with gold(I) or gold(III) species giving rise to di- o
r tri-nuclear complexes which contain the triphosphine acting as a mu(
3)-eta(3), mu-eta(2), mu-eta(3) or eta(2) ligand.
