Substituents in the positions 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the fluorenylidene frag
ment clearly influence the polymerization behaviour of the syndiospeci
fic catalyst systems (C(13)H(8-n)R(n)CR(2)'C5H4)ZrCl2/MAO (n = 1, 2; R
= alkyl, aryl; R' = Me, Ph). We report seven new catalyst precursors
of this type, including first polymerization results. An X-ray study o
f the 4,5-dimethyl derivative 10b explains the reduced activity and st
ereospecifity of this catalyst.
