The complex [Cu-8{SC6H3(CH(2)NMe(2))(2-)2,6}Br-3(5)] (4) is the first
reported example of a mixed (thiolato)copper/copper halide aggregate.
Its X-ray structure shows it to be a fully asymmetric molecule compris
ing three copper arenethiolate and five copper bromide entities and ha
ving a distorted square-antiprismatic arrange ment of the octanuclear
copper core. Some structural features of the bonding of the bromine an
d the sulfur atoms are common to known aggregate structures, but the s
tructure does show an unprecedented mu(4)-S-bonding of one arenethiola
te ligand.
