Abstract
Armillaria nabsnona is characterized morphologically and described as a new species. It is compatible with tester strains of North American biological species (NABS) IX. Using restriction fragment length polymo rphism (RFLP) of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products amplifie d from the intergenic spacer (IGS) region of the ribosomal DNA, we als o demonstrate an association of cultures of specimens with tester stra ins of NABS IX. Armillaria nabsnona appears to be restricted to severa l species of hardwood trees in the states of Washington, Oregon, Calif ornia, Idaho and Alaska, and in the Canadian province of British Colum bia. Basidiomata have been found in both the fall and spring.
