4GL CLIENT-SERVER APPLICATION PLATFORM - VGUIDE

VGUIDE (Visual and General User Interface for Database Environment) is an integrated environment for developing and executing distributed in formation systems based on the client/server model. Its main features are: (1) Fourth-generation language (4GL) for developing database appl ications that reduces system development cost. (2) Real-time control m onitor that can be scaled from small systems to heavy loaded large sys tems. (3) 4GL application programs that can be ported among multi-vend or machines and operating systems. First, this report presents a techn ical overview of VGUIDE for developing distributed information systems . It describes the integrated middleware environment, various client/s erver models, and flexible application control mechanisms. Next, perfo rmance of VGUIDE is examined. Then, actual examples with VGUIDE are ex plained. The effectiveness of VGUIDE is also discussed.
