Abstract
The associations between the bovine MHC (BoLA) class I region and milk production traits in three Swiss cattle breeds was subject of investi gation. The data set included 598 Braunvieh x Brown Swiss, 629 Simment al x Red Holstein, and 195 Holstein AI test bulls. A gene substitution model was used to analyse the influence of BoLA haplotypes on deregre ssed breeding values of bulls for milk production. In Braunvieh crosse s, the BoLA class I alleles were related to the amount of fat produced per lactation. Allele A22 was associated with a high fat production. In Fleckvieh and Holstein bulls, no significant effect on milk product ion traits was found.
