Charcoals from three Neolithic sites were examined and the results wer
e compared with charcoal spectra from natural sediments of the same ag
e as well as with the results of pollen analysis. ft has been shown th
at charcoal preserved in oxbow lake sediments reflects forest clearanc
es by Neolithic farmers. Common trees, having wood of good quality and
growing in terrains easily accessible to people, were mostly used by
inhabitants of the examined settlements.
