The study of charcoal from lake sediments in the depression of Fachi (
1818'N/11-degrees-33'E) allows a reconstitution of the vegetation for
that part of the Central Sahara around 7000 B.P. At the edge of the l
ake. dense woodland or forest formations were growing, consisting of S
udanian elements. Comparison with anthracological and palynological da
ta from other parts of the Sahara suggests parallel shifts of the clim
atic and vegetation belts.
