After the big deforestation in the Middle Age, the forested Massif of
Hortus plateau (South of France, Herault Country) was marked for five
centuries (XIVe-XVIIIe) by the development and the growth of glassmaki
ng works. The systematic Inventory of the place detected the presence
of charcoal-kilns. According to oral inquiries, a few were in operatio
n in the first half of the XXth century (i 962). However, only archaeo
logical excavations will enable us to date the whole site accurately.
