Abstract
The influence of viscous drag forces on cantilevers is investigated us ing standard atomic force microscope (AFM) cantilevers, Viscosity effe cts on several geometrically different cantilevers manifest themselves as variations in resonance frequencies, quality factors, and cantilev er response amplitudes. With this novel measurement, a single cantilev er can be used to measure viscosities ranging from eta=10(-2) to 10(2) g/cm s. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
