RESONANT PHOTOEMISSION-STUDY OF GD-LU AND DY-LU MULTILAYERS

By preparing the multilayered films of Gd-Lu and Dy-Lu on Si(111), the valence-band and 4f spectra have been investigated in the region of t he 3d absorption edge of these rare earths using resonant; photoemissi on spectroscopy The new satellite structure has been found above the 4 f main peak for pure Gd film, but; this structure disappeared in Gd-Lu film. For pure Dy and Dy-Lu multilayers such structure could not be o bserved. The disappearance of the satellite in the Gd-Lu multilayers i s ascribed to be due to intervening effect of Lu between Gd layers.
