Abstract
An appreciable magnetic circular dichroism is found for the La 4d --> 4f core absorption in a ferromagnetic La0.84Sr0.16MnO3. An ordered mom ent of the La 4f state with its spin parallel to the Mn 3d majority sp in is revealed. The x-ray photoemission spectra have shown satellite s tructures of the La 3d, 4d and O 1s core states besides the Mn 2p and 3p states. Appreciable hybridization between the La 4f, La 5d, O 2p an d Mn 3d states in the core hole excited states are clarified.
