D. Spanke et al., ELEMENT-SPECIFIC MAGNETIC DOMAIN IMAGING BASED ON LINEAR AND CIRCULARMAGNETIC DICHROISM IN PHOTOABSORPTION, Journal of electron spectroscopy and related phenomena, 78, 1996, pp. 299-302
The discovery of magnetic dichroism in core level spectroscopy opened
the route to magnetic domain imaging. By employing light in the soft X
-ray regime one obtains chemically specific information. Besides the c
ommonly used circular magnetic dichroism (MCD), we demonstrate feasibi
lity of using linear magnetic dichroism in absorption for domain imagi
ng in the photo electron emission microscope (PEEM). By combining diff
erent light polarizations, one obtains vectorial information on the ma
gnetic moment distribution close to the surrface.
