Abstract
A theoretical interpretation of the low temperature shift of the Gamma (7)-Gamma(8) frequency, i.e., the crystal field gap, which has been ex perimentally observed by Raman and neutron inelastic scattering is pro posed. The origin of this shift is attributed to the collective modes caused by the orbital degrees of freedom.
