Abstract
We have used X-ray specular reflectivity to study the influence of sup ported monolayers on the structure of the surface of liquid mercury. A t surface density around 25 Angstrom(2) / molecule, the molecules of f atty acids such as pentadecanoic, stearic, eicosanoic or behenic acid appear vertically oriented. The surface layering of bare liquid Hg app ears unmodified when a monolayer is spread on the surface.
