Abstract
An analytical model for the computation of temperature and heat flux d istribution in a semiinfinite solid when subjected to spatially decayi ng, time-dependent laser source is investigated. The appropriate dimen sionless parameters are identified and the reduced temperature and hea l flux as a function of these parameters are presented in a graphic fo rm. Some special cases of practical interest are also discussed. It is demonstrated that the present analysis covers the continuously operat ing constant strength as well as instantaneous laser source cases, alo ng with some new solutions.
