Abstract
This article examines the relationship glycemia in patients with diabe tes and the occurrence of complications in the eyes, kidneys, and hear t. Emphasis is placed on those aspects that are relevant to the develo pment and evaluation of preventive and therapeutic programs against th ese complications. Data on patients with insulin-dependent diabetes me llitus are reviewed, and the similarities and differences with the dat a on patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus are discuss ed.
