Gl. King et M. Brownlee, THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF DIABETIC COMPLICATIONS, Endocrinology and metabolism clinics of North America, 25(2), 1996, pp. 255
Hyperglycemia-induced mechanisms that may induce diabetic vascular dys
function include increased polyol pathway flux, altered cellular redox
state, increased formation of diacylglycerol, the subsequent activati
on of protein kinase C isoforms, and accelerated nonenzymatic formatio
n of advanced glycation end products. Growth factor abnormalities and
insulin resistance also may have a role.
