Lj. Bohmann et al., A VARIABLE VOLTAGE AND FREQUENCY SCHEME TO OPTIMIZE THE EFFICIENCY OFA WIND-DRIVEN INDUCTION GENERATOR, Electric machines and power systems, 24(4), 1996, pp. 429-435
The most recent approaches to harness energy fi om tilt: wind utilizin
g induction generators has been made possible by advances in induction
motor control rising power electronic drives. The freedom in adjustin
g terminal voltage or current, and frequency allows operation of the i
nduction machine to fit any desired characteristic. The purpose of thi
s paper is to propose a scheme using this technology to convert wind e
nergy to electricity at maximum wind turbine power and induction gener
ator efficiency. The Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) is used
to simulate the control of the induction generator. Simulation result
s show that this system operates as predicted in a stable fashion at t
he desired operating point.
