Superficial punctate keratitis is a breed-related keratitis observed m
ainly, but not exclusively, in long-haired Dachshunds. The clinical co
urse of the disease is well known, but its etiology is not completely
understood. It is a chronic disease that appears in young animals (les
s than 2 years of age) and is undoubtedly linked to hypersensitivity t
o inhalant allergens and perhaps to ultraviolet light exposure. Pathol
ogy, etiology, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment are discussed.
