Abstract
Nonlocal effects on the mixed slab-toroidal ion-temperature-gradient-d riven (ITG) instability an investigated with analytical and numerical approaches. Although it is more complex than the local analysis, the n onlocal analysis also leads to the same conclusion that a second stabl e regime exists at large values of the perpendicular temperature gradi ent. From a strictly theoretical point of view, this result provides a possible stabilization scheme for the ITG instability. (C) 1996 Ameri can Institute of Physics.
