Abstract
Obesity is a major cause of human essential hypertension. Recent studi es point toward increased renal tubular reabsorption and abnormal rena l pressure natriuresis in mediating obesity hypertension. The mechanis ms for these renal changes appear to be multifactorial, including acti vation of the sympathetic nervous system and altered intrarenal histol ogy, which compresses the renal medulla.
