Abstract
Mathematical models are now an integral part of the control systems as
sociated with rolling mills. For such systems the process models must
run in real time. Since rolling conditions not only vary with time but
from mill to mill the models must be amenable to adaptation. This pap
er reviews identification techniques that can be used with process mod
els. The behaviour of the algorithms is illustrated with results from
a single stand reversing mill.
