We consider a curved beam, in the context of linear elasticity, anisot
ropic in general. We study the asymptotic behavior as the ratio epsilo
n of the dimension of the cross-section to the length tends to zero. T
he limit displacement is inextensional. The strain-stress relation cou
ples in general bending with torsion and traction. In consequence, the
description of the displacement also involves two ''hidden variables'
' phi and E(1).
