Ds. Risley et al., AN ALTERNATIVE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF CHLORIDE IN PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG SUBSTANCES USING HPLC AND EVAPORATIVE LIGHT-SCATTERING DETECTION, LC GC, 14(12), 1996, pp. 1040
Researchers traditionally have analyzed inorganic ions such as chlorid
e in pharmaceutical drug substances by ion chromatography (IC) with co
nductivity detection or titration methods. The authors have developed
a new quantitative method for the determination of chloride in pharmac
eutical drug substances using high performance liquid chromatography (
HPLC) with evaporative light-scattering detection, They compare the an
alyses of chloride in 17 pharmaceutical drug substances (hydrochloride
salts) using HPLC analysis with evaporative light-scattering detectio
n (ELSD) against the theoretical chloride content based on empirical f
ormulas. In addition, they statistically compare chloride results obta
ined by IC, capillary electrophoresis, and titration methods with resu
lts obtained by HPLC-ELSD.
