The Stetter procedure has been adapted to produce oligomeric and polym
eric pyrrolylpyridines, which have been characterised by C-13 NMR spec
troscopy. The lower activity of 2-(pyrrol-2-yl)pyridines towards quate
rnisation permits selective N-alkylation of 2-, 3- and 4-(pyrrol-2-yl)
