A. Stella et al., SIZE EFFECTS IN THE ULTRAFAST ELECTRONIC DYNAMICS OF METALLIC TIN NANOPARTICLES, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 53(23), 1996, pp. 15497-15500
We report on femtosecond transient reflectivity measurements performed
on metallic tin nanoparticles, embedded in an Al2O3 matrix, with aver
age radii in the range 20-60 Angstrom. It was observed that the time b
ehavior of the transient reflectivity decays depends upon particle siz
e. The results can be interpreted in terms of a size-dependent electro
n-surface interaction in the thermalization process and of a substanti
ally size-independent electron-electron thermalization.
