Kl. Baker et al., THOMSON SCATTERING MEASUREMENTS OF THE LANGMUIR WAVE SPECTRA RESULTING FROM STIMULATED RAMAN-SCATTERING, Physical review letters, 77(1), 1996, pp. 67-70
Thomson scattering was used to measure the Langmuir wave spectrum gene
rated by stimulated Raman scattering. This experiment detected Langmui
r waves with components both parallel and antiparallel to the incident
laser's wave vector <(k)over right arrow (0)>. The parallel component
was attributed to stimulated Raman scattering. However, the Langmuir
waves moving antiparallel to <(k)over right arrow (0)>, which cannot b
e explained by stimulated Raman scattering, were attributed to the Lan
gmuir decay instability.
