Abstract
The effect of vitamin A-deficiency on the structural integrity of lyso somes in the skeletal muscle and skin of Heteropneustes fossilis, a de hydroretinol-rich freshwater siluroid used in pisciculture, has been e valuated Dietary stress was found to cause enhanced release of acid hy drolases from both skeletal muscle and skin tissues. The results indic ate that the regulation of lysosomal membrane stability in these tissu es is a function of vitamin A.
