The effect of loss on a twin 2 x 2 coupler fibre resonator is to limit
the amount of light that is coupled into the resonator. We present a
numerical analysis and experimental data which show that the amount of
light that is coupled into the initial resonator can be increased by
the addition of a secondary resonator containing a single 2 x 2 couple
r. We show that by a suitable choice of the coupling ratio of the addi
tional 2 x 2 coupler all the light incident on the composite resonator
can be coupled into the composite resonator.
