Abstract
The case of a young woman soldier with perinatal hearing impairment wh o developed auditory hallucinations during her basic military training is described. The hallucinatory experience was not accompanied by gro ss psychopathology. The synergistic effect of hearing impairment and s tress may play a role in generating hallucinations.
