Y. Koibuchi et al., CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ANALYSIS OF SURVIVAL RATE OF BREAST-CANCER PATIENTS WITH A FAMILY HISTORY IN JAPAN, Oncology Reports, 3(4), 1996, pp. 729-732
We compared the clinical characteristics and survival rate of 52 patie
nts of unilateral breast cancer with family history (UFH) with 665 pat
ients with no family history (UNFH). The distribution of clinical stag
e and histologic type were almost equal between two groups. The estrog
en receptor-positive rate was significantly higher in UFH than UNFH. A
s for a disease-free survival, there was no difference, however, the o
verall survival seemed to be better in UFH than in UNFH. These results
suggest that the survival of the UFH may depend on a higher incidence
of estrogen receptor-positive cases because UFH responds well to horm
onal treatment after relapse.
