RADIOTHERAPY COSTS IN GLIOBLASTOMA - A COST-EFFECTIVE ANALYSIS

This study reveals the cost of radiotherapy (54 Gy or 39 Gy) in gliobl astoma in northern Norway 1987-92. 29 patients were registered, 9 pati ents (group 1) and 10 patients (group 2) received 54 Gy and 39 Gy, res pectively. The total treatment costs were registered according to the 1994-prices. The median survival in group 1 and group 2 was 12 months and 7 months, respectively. The cost effective analysis revealed a tre atment cost of pound 4.858 per year saved. A cost utility and a sensit ivity analysis is included. The prolonged treatment looks cost effecti ve only when performed in an outpatient setting and the survival benef it is >2 months.
