Organic salts as initiators [AB-+(-): Ph(3)*C+ClO4-, Ph(3)*C+SbCl6-,
(-)Sp(ClO4-)-Cl-+, and (-)(Sp)*(3+)(2)(ClO4)(3)(-)] and catalysts [A(
+)B(-): (+)CSA*; A*B-+*(-): ph(3)*C+(+)CSA*(-) and (-)Sp*(+)(+)CSA*(-
)] are prepared and characterized by the dissociation constant (K-d),
fraction of free ions (alpha), and specific rotation. The asymmetrical
ly stereoselective induction of the initiators and catalysts in the po
lymerization of N-vinylcarbazole is in the order AB-+*(-) > A(+)B*(-)
> AB-+(-). The specific rotations of the poly(N-vinylcarbazole) (PVC
Z)s obtained are generally in this order.
