Little is known about the neuroendocrine impact of cocaine as it relat
es to pituitarygrowth hormone secretion. In these studies, in adult ma
le rats, intracerebroventricular administration of cocaine caused a po
tent dose-related suppression of circulating growth hormone (GH) in an
imals sacrificed 15 min after drug administration. We conclude that in
the adult male rat cocaine suppresses plasma GH levels.
