In the 21st century, polymers will be even more in demand for our mode
rn societal needs than they are today. From the high volume commodity
plastics to the highly sophisticated, highly priced, and specially des
igned low volume functional specialty polymers, an entire rainbow of n
eeds and application possibilities awaits the polymers of the future.
In some cases new and improved manufacturing techniques or improvement
s in the life cycle of these materials will be needed. In other cases
completely new polymer structures and their morphologies will have to
be developed.
