The optical properties of Ni2+-ion impurities in a new crystal, the in
verted fluoroperovskite BaLiF3, have been studied. In particular we ha
ve investigated the fine structure of the transition by means of absor
ption and emission spectra. By analogy to previous results we have ass
igned the structured absorption band around 1200 nm to the (3)A(2) -->
T-3(1) transition. Four zero-phonon lines are clearly visible in the
absorption spectrum. The emission in the region 1250-1600 nm, due to t
he same (3)A(2) --> T-3(1) transition, consists of two sharp lines wit
h their vibrational sidebands.
