Abstract
Ticks and fleas are worldwide the most frequent and most important ect oparasites of dogs. In Europe dogs became infested with 11 species of ticks and two flea species. Ticks are of special interest because of t heir vector relationship to the pathogens of diseases Like Lyme-Borrel iosis, Ehrlichiosis, Mediterranean-Spotted-Fever and Babesiosis, Preve ntion and control of ticks in dogs is therefore important for human an d animal health. Trials were conducted on the efficacy and duration of efficacy with the dog collar KILTIX which contains the active ingredi ent flumethrin against ticks and propoxur against fleas. After repeate d experimental infestation with Ixodes ricinus and Rhipicephalus sangu ineus 33 weeks and after infestations with Ctenocephalides felis up to 30 weeks duration of efficacy was found, In controlled field trials ( GCP) the dog collar KILTIX was effective against eight tick species in Europe and overseas, Small differences in the duration of efficacy we re seen due to external factors such as frequent swimming of the dogs. The content of active ingredients in the hair coat increased until we ek 18 after treatment and decreased afterwards until week 30 post trea tment.
